Solutions for Emotional Eating for Midlife Women: Do You Have Permission to Listen to your Body?

I am a Menopause health coach and Dean of Varsity Menopause. I have integrated an educational background in psychology with a fitness and coaching career for over 30 years, empowering midlife women to achieve clarity and confidence beyond their wildest dreams through a series of online courses that address body-confidence and emotional regulation through research-based journaling and other techniques.

Over 30 years ago I lost four clothing sizes without dieting and have imperfectly eaten the amount of food that sustains this body size ever since through pregnancy, menopause, divorce and all the things life throws us. I know a lot about emotional eating! I’m also a grateful, recovering perfectionist.

[QUIZ] Is it … menopause? Is this community right for me?

The Varsity Menopause Quiz

I’m so happy you found your way here—to a community of women who have experienced menopause (and yes, survived all the emotions, physical symptoms, ups and downs) and have made a decision to make it a Varsity Menopause experience

But, how do you know if this is the right place for you? And … is it even menopause anyway? I’ve put together a quick YES/NO quiz to help you determine if what you’re experiencing is a hormonal shift, perimenopause or menopause, and if this community is right for you.

  • Are you suddenly more forgetful than ever in your life?
  • Have you experienced “brain fog”—trouble finding...

How to Age Gracefully with Ellayne Birbeth: An Interview on New Style Radio 98.7 FM

How do we age gracefully and successfully when we are faced with isolation, loneliness and depression? Listen to our 30-minute discussion, here

Topics and questions we touched on:

  • Does the female ever recover from menopause? Does the journey get easier?
  • Women tend not to talk about menopause. They find it difficult to open up. Is that the experience you've had with women you know?
  • What were the first symptoms you experienced? (Insomnia, crying, mood swings, forgetfulness, losing things)
  • Encourage the men in your life to listen to this so they can be supportive of the women in their lives. Start the conversation.
  • Think about it: all females across the globe will experience this at some time in their lives. What a great opportunity to bond and help each...

How I Became The Dean of Varsity Menopause

During the same season of book title contemplation, my son graduated from high school and prepared to leave home for college. I knew my job title of 18 years was about to shift radically, but I had no idea what it would be shifting to.

I took the challenge head-on and began listening intently to every entrepreneurial podcast I could find. Per my usual intense self-diagnosed, gently-OCD style, I took notes and created folders corresponding to podcasters who inspired me most. Gradually, a vision for a scaled version of my existing coaching practice took shape. There was a mixture of feelings ranging from paralyzing fear to excited, unknown...
